The Fulbright Scholar Award

Summary: Grants for teaching and/or research projects. The Commission accepts proposals in all disciplines. An invitation letter is recommended but not required.
The awards for U.S. scholars include, but are not limited to, hyphenated grants with several important Romanian universities, such as: University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest University of Economic Studies, “Ovidius” University of Constanta, Politehnica University of Bucharest, Transilvania University of Brașov.

Length of Grant: Four to nine months (nine months preferred).

Grant Dates: One-semester grants may begin in October or February; two-semester grants must begin in October.

Degree Requirements:PhD (or equivalent terminal degree) required.

Language Requirements: All teaching will be in English; proficiency in another language is not required.

Standard grant benefits:
• monthly stipend: $ 2,860 per month for faculty at the associate or full professor rank or the professional equivalent; $ 2,640 per month for faculty at or below the assistant professor rank or the professional equivalent;
• subsistence allowance: $ 250-$ 450, based of the number of accompanying dependents;
• travel and relocation allowance to cover round-trip international travel;
• health insurance is provided for grantees only.

Special country benefits:

• Besides and above these amounts, grantees will receive an additional monthly stipend, in Romanian currency, amounting to RON 6,100 (approximately $1,400, depending on the exchange rate) or RON 7,000 for grantees accompanied by dependents (approximately $1,600, depending on the exchange rate).
