Fulbright Scholar-In-Residence

NOTE: For detailed information on SIR award program, guidelines and application forms visit: https://www.cies.org/program/fulbright-scholar-residence-program

The SIR program offers opportunities to non-U.S. visiting scholars from different countries, including Romania, to teach at U.S. colleges and universities for one or both semesters of one academic year. The Visiting Scholars in the SIR program are expected to contribute to internationalization of the programs and campus, assist with the development of curricula and faculty and support initiatives meant to diversify student and faculty experiences.

The SIR program targets U.S. institutions that do not have a strong international component and belong to one of the following categories: historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges, community colleges, small liberal-arts institutions.

The U.S. institutions of higher education intending to invite a Romanian visiting scholar within the SIR program should submit proposals to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington D.C., in fall. In their proposals, institutions call for scholars who are expected to carry out a variety of activities, including teaching classes, giving guest lectures in other classes, as well as making public presentations at community organizations.

The U.S. institutions may either invite specific scholars by name or have CIES recruit scholars from a particular field with the support of Fulbright agencies.
CIES convenes an outside review committee to evaluate proposals and develop a slate of recommendations to the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Funding for this program is provided exclusively by the U.S. Department of State.
